….Continuing the theme of shoegaze influence, Brooklyn-based Dead Leaf Echo (playing live as a five-piece) were on next with a pleasing set of mellow dream-pop songs. Recalling the sounds of Pale Saints, Slowdive, Cocteau Twins and early Lush, Dead Leaf Echo’s atmospheric songs feature shimmery and swirling guitars, breezy melodies and the gentle, melancholic vocals of lead singer/guitarist LG Galleon. The band usually performs with screen projections behind them but, likely owing to the size of the stage, the projector on this night was aimed directly at LG, making for some interesting visual effects. Dead Leaf Echo kicked off with a newer song, “Half Truth,” and the set included “Cry The Sea” and “Poison Lips” before coming to a climactic conclusion with the Ulrich Schnauss mixed “Pale Fire.” The band is set to release a third album, Truth (2&1 Records) in October.

The Neue Galerie of German and Austrian Expressionist Art has a new exhibit of Otto Dix, in his first solo US show ever. Divided into 4 themes, the above “Mealtime in the Trench” is one of 50 of Dix’s etchings in simple monochromatic frames dealing with War. The others are Portraiture, Sexuality and Allegory. A trip has been planed to Museum this month and explore all 4.
